Last weekend the Audi Power of 4 at Aspen Snowmass, Colorado, hosted the North American Skyrunning Championship for the Ultra category with world-class competition fighting it out on the high altitude mountainside.

Starting the 50K race over the Vertical Kilometer® course, this race spaced the field out from the start with over 3,000m+ of vertical gain.

Paul Hamilton (Altra) took the lead early on and held it throughout for a convincing victory in 5:13:18, but there was a fierce fight for second between Rickey Gates (Salomon) and Josh Arthur (Altra). Josh broke away on the final descent to claim second in 5:15:45 to Rickey’s 5:18:21.

In the women’s race it was more spaced out and Ashley Erba (Altra) broke away from the other women early on to win in 5:53:25. Anna Mae Flynn (Salomon) ran solidly in second throughout to finish in 6:11:58, followed by Reese Ruland in 6:27:00.

All runners scored points towards the global Skyrunner® World Series as well as the US Skyrunner® Series. Congratulations to all finishers, especially to the Continental Champions, Paul Hamilton and Ashley Erba.

The North American Continental Championship for the VK® and SkyRace® categories will be at the Flagstaff SkyRace® at the end of the season.
