COMPRESSPORT® concludes a highly successful first season as Skyrunner® World Series and 2014 Skyrunning World Championship partner and with a team counting the best of the best of the discipline. On the shores of Italy’s spectacular Limone sul Garda last weekend, COMPRESSPORT® athletes excelled at the Series Vertical and Sky finals.

Italian Elisa Desco was a shining light for COMPRESSPORT® in 2014. Earlier in the year, Desco took the World Champion title for the Sky distance in the world outdoor capital of Chamonix. Her season counts top-3 performances at Zegama and Matterhorn Ultraks - the Limone SkyRace® was always going to be a great way to finish a stunning year.

In tough conditions, Desco ran a cautious race in the early stages and reeled in the very strong competition as the race distance and difficulty took its toll. Pushing hard, the top two places were out of reach. However, a final podium place was secured and with it, a prestigious 3rd place in the 2014 Skyrunner® World Series final ranking.

2012 Limone SkyRace® champion and course record holder, Italian Marco De Gasperi had a tough day battling a very strong men’s field. Arguably, it was the strongest field ever assembled in a SkyRace®. From the start on the banks of Lake Garda, the pace was relentless. Always running in the top five, De Gasperi looked to be running a smooth and calculated race. However, heavy rain, thunderstorms and a tumble on the final descent ruined any possibility of a podium slot. However, fighter that he is, De Gasperi pushed to the line taking an excellent 4th.

The Limone SkyRace® is considered by many to be a pure skyrunning race! At 24.5km and with 2000m+/- vertical ascent and descent, it is not a race for the feint hearted. Technical, brutal and difficult, the race has all the makings of becoming a classic.

In 2014, skyrunning has once again reached new levels thanks to the runners, organisers and the support and vision of partners like COMPRESSPORT® whose products play a major role in the prevention, performance and recovery of skyrunners.
